New and updated comment plugins for Publii CMS

Over the past few days, we've reviewed the comment plugins available through the Publii Marketplace. We added two new integrations, EchoThread and Commentix, released version 3.0.0 of Hyvor Talk, GraphComment, and Disqus Comments, and removed three integrations we can no longer support reliably.

As part of this update, we checked every comment integration, including its current embed code, thread identification, lazy loading, Publii Preview, and Cookie Banner support. The settings and documentation now match how each service works in 2026.

EchoThread joins the Publii Marketplace

EchoThread Comments connects Publii posts and pages to the hosted EchoThread platform. Readers can join nested threads, react to comments, attach images, share links with previews, and post as guests when the site owner enables that option.

Setup requires the API key assigned to a registered domain. Publii creates the widget and loads it in the comment area provided by the active theme, with no need to paste EchoThread's embed code into a template.

EchoThread  Comments

Publii gives each post and page a stable thread identifier based on its content ID. Existing discussions stay connected after a slug change as long as the content ID and EchoThread site remain the same. This also works on Publii websites that publish relative URLs.

EchoThread settings in Publii cover:

  • interface language, light or dark mode, and accent color;
  • fonts, sizing, corner radius, and mobile layout;
  • comments heading and surrounding CSS classes;
  • structured data for approved discussions;
  • loading the widget when it approaches the viewport;
  • optional consent through the Publii Cookie Banner.

EchoThread provides moderation tools and machine-learning spam filtering. Site owners can approve, reject, or delete comments, switch between automatic and manual approval, and export discussions as JSON or CSV. EchoThread states that the service displays no advertising and uses no third-party tracking.

The Publii plugin is free. The hosted EchoThread service requires its own account, a registered domain, and a site API key. The Hobby plan covers the first site within monthly usage limits. EchoThread Comments 1.0.0 requires Publii 0.46 or newer.

Commentix joins the Publii Marketplace

Commentix Comments adds hosted comments to Publii posts and pages. Readers can start discussions, reply in threads, and like contributions, while site owners manage them through the Commentix Console.

A Site ID connects Publii to Commentix. The plugin creates the required Web Component, so the theme does not need a separate embed script.

Commentix Comments

Each post and page gets a stable thread identifier. Changing its slug or address does not disconnect the discussion when the Publii content ID stays the same. Commentix also works with relative Publii URLs.

Commentix settings in Publii cover:

  • the widget language and first comment order;
  • maximum reply depth and the number of visible comments;
  • comment likes and the total comment count;
  • accent color and interface size;
  • comments heading and surrounding CSS classes;
  • lazy loading and optional Publii Cookie Banner consent.

Commentix states that its widget contains no advertising and uses no cookies for analytics, tracking, or marketing. It supports more than 20 interface languages, along with automatic, granular, and manual moderation. Site owners can import and export comments in JSON format.

The Publii plugin is free, while Commentix is a separate paid service. It offers a 14-day trial and plans based on monthly widget pageviews. Commentix 1.0.0 requires Publii 0.46 or newer.

Hyvor Talk, GraphComment, and Disqus reach version 3.0.0

On August 18, 2026, we released version 3.0.0 of Hyvor Talk, GraphComment, and Disqus Comments.

The three updates share several changes:

  • stable discussion identifiers based on Publii post and page IDs;
  • the public page address supplied to the comment provider;
  • lazy loading linked to the position of the comment section;
  • validation for Cookie Group IDs and clearer consent messages;
  • a status message in Publii Preview instead of an external widget request;
  • settings reorganized around configuration, appearance, loading, and consent.

Publii Preview no longer requests the external comment services. Its local file:/// address can create invalid threads, blocked requests, or provider errors that do not reflect the published website. The plugins now display a status message in Preview and direct you to test on a staging or public URL.

Hyvor Talk 3.0.0

The previous Hyvor Talk plugin used the V2 integration. Hyvor ended V2 support in 2024 but retained a compatibility layer for older installations. Many comment sections continued to load through that layer, although it ignored the former lazy-load setting.

This version uses the current <hyvor-talk-comments> Web Component and module script. It supplies the V3 page ID, page URL, and loading attributes while retaining the Publii content IDs used by version 2.0.0. Existing threads stay connected when the Website ID and content IDs remain unchanged.

The Cookie Banner loader now handles the module script required by Hyvor Talk V3.

GraphComment 3.0.0

GraphComment 3.0.0 uses the service's current embed loader. Publii supplies a stable discussion ID, public URL, and page title for each post and page.

This version adds settings for the first discussion order and the number of top-level discussions shown on each page. You can start with the newest, oldest, or most relevant discussions, or let the GraphComment account setting control the order.

Disqus Comments 3.0.0

Disqus Comments 3.0.0 updates the embed loader and page configuration. A stable discussion identifier and public page URL keep each thread connected when you rename a slug.

This new version also adds an optional language override. Leave the field empty to use the language selected by Disqus, or enter a supported language code for the generated page.

All three Publii plugins remain free. Version 3.0.0 requires Publii 0.46 or newer.

Commento, Cusdis, and Facebook Comments leave the Marketplace

The review also covered the development and service status behind Commento, Cusdis Comments, and Facebook Comments. None could remain as a dependable Marketplace integration.

Commento

Developers have not maintained the original Commento project for years, and its former domain is no longer active. Without a maintained project or live provider, we cannot test and support the Publii integration.

The active Comentario project describes Commento as its discontinued predecessor and provides a migration path for self-hosted Commento data.

Cusdis Comments

The Cusdis maintainer marked the project as deprecated and archived its repository on July 17, 2026. Its project page directs hosted-service users to request a data export. We removed the Publii connector because the source is now read-only and the service is deprecated.

Facebook Comments

Meta discontinued the Facebook Comments Plugin on February 10, 2026, then stopped serving the widget on third-party sites. The Publii plugin could no longer display a working comment section.

Guidance for sites using a retired plugin

Removing a plugin from the Marketplace does not transfer comments stored by its provider. Export your discussion data before closing an account or self-hosted server, then check which formats the replacement service can import.

The Publii Marketplace offers five maintained comment integrations:

  • EchoThread for privacy-focused discussions, flexible styling, reactions, attachments, and built-in spam filtering;
  • Commentix for a compact Web Component with focused moderation controls;
  • Hyvor Talk for real-time discussions and a broad set of community features;
  • GraphComment for visual discussion threads and Bubble Flow;
  • Disqus for sites that want to use the established Disqus comment network.

Each service has its own account requirements, plans, moderation tools, and data policies. Its Marketplace page separates those service features from the settings provided by the Publii plugin.

Download or update your comment plugin

Open the Publii Plugin Marketplace and select the Comments filter to see the available integrations. Check the account requirements, install or update the plugin, and regenerate your website.

When updating Hyvor Talk, GraphComment, or Disqus, keep the same provider ID and Publii content IDs. Those values connect published pages to their existing discussion threads.
